SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Budding gardeners are busy browsing the rows of flowers, trees, and potted plants at local greenhouses this week.  But, with temperatures expected to drop up to 50 degrees Thursday night, many of them are holding off on planting. "I'm just getting this for my garden spot before they got too picked-over.  As far as the weather, I'm going to keep them inside for the time being and wait for the cold to go away again," said Zack Christensen, a first-time gardener.

Yet another beautiful day for the Ozarks!  High pressure extends from Texas back through the Ozarks.  This evening is going to be beautiful with temperatures dropping to the upper 50s.  Friday is going to be a wonderful day with sunny skies and highs near 70.  The weekend ahead looks warm and dry.  Early next week a storm will move across the Ozarks.  The models have been advertising rain for several days.  I do think we will have rain but it now appears the intensity and coverage may not be as great as has been indicated the last several days.

A deep storm system and a strong cold front are marching across Kansas this afternoon.  Strong South winds are gusting in excess of 30 mph.  Moisture is currently shallow and limited but should improve slightly this evening.  Strong dynamics coupled with moderate moisture and the strong cold front will lead to scattered strong thunderstorms later tonight.  The main area is going to be east of highway 65 with high winds and an isolated tornado threat possible.  The storms are going to move rapidly and any threat of severe weather is going to be a one shot deal.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Springfield police have gone to emergency status due to weather conditions. During emergency status, people must make a walk-in accident report if the involved vehicles are driveable, no one is injured, and there are no drug- or alcohol-impaired drivers involved. Drivers are asked to drive accordingly for weather conditions, including clearing windows of snow and ice, keeping a greater following distance, and to use caution when driving over bridges and overpasses.

Clouds continue to spread over the area at noon.  Rain has begun over western Missouri, and it should expand later this afternoon and especially tonight.  Once rain begins where you are, temperatures will fall some.  Colder air will wrap into the system tonight from west to east.  It still looks as though the highest snow totals will be along the line from Nevada to Versailles, where 4-8” with locally higher totals is expected.  Temperatures will be at or just above freezing, but the intense snow rates will make up for this and roads will become quite slick over central Missouri.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- We will see a lot of sunshine again today as winds pick up out of the southeast. Today is the warm day of the forecast with afternoon temperatures expected to reach the low 50s. Clouds will start to increase tonight ahead of our next storm system which will arrive on Tuesday. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A lot of kids had the day off on Thursday thanks to Mother Nature.  Some businesses even closed their doors, but certainly not everyone.  For many, it was business almost as usual. If you are a health care worker or part of the police force or fire department, the winter storm didn't stop you from clocking in on Thursday.   A good number of places closed up shop, but there were still some businesses happy to welcome you inside. Winter Storm Q isn't a clever band name.  It's not a blockbuster movie nor a video game title, but it is a reason a lot of people didn't go into work Thursday.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --  Residents around the area are stocking up on supplies in case the snow and ice renders them unable to get on the roads in the coming days. "I heed the warnings.  I am a weather geek," said Theresa Ollis, a Springfield resident.  "You just get prepared and what happens, happens. " On Wednesday, folks filed into grocery stores and filling stations.  It seems nobody wants to be left without supplies.  It was certainly a situation many like found themselves in during the big ice storm of 2007… "We were out for 13 days.
