SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- If you think you can predict the weather based on the aches and pains that you feel, doctors say there is some merit to your claims. You’ve likely heard it from friends and acquaintances: they know Mother Nature is bringing changes because an old injury flares up, arthritis symptoms set in, or an intense headache begins. “I’ve had people tell me two or three days before we get a snow or really bad thunderstorm that they just can hardly move around and, once that storm hits, immediately the pressure leaves their joints and they feel better and they can do the things that they were accustomed to doing,” said registered nurse Margaret Lindsey.

Cindy Garner, an urban forester with the Missouri Department of Conservation,  says our area, overall, has enjoyed a really good growing season.

CLEVER, Mo. -- We've gone from sleeping with the windows open to turning the heat back on in a matter of days. Par for the course in the Ozarks, but you're not the only one with weather whiplash. On this cold day in February, growers are dreaming of perfect produce. That's business at Arrowhead Orchard which makes winter a little stressful. "Yeah, that's why we made sure that we put extra things, like weights to keep the cloth down so they woudn't blow up and freeze while I was away," said Arrowhead owner Kathy Sudduth.

SPRINGFIELD, -- It has been decades since people have seen anything like this in the Ozarks. This is the time of year when there are more spring activities in downtown. People were setting up their tents for the annual Arts Festival still scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday. Jacob Gaumer helps run the art gallery Canvas on South Avenue. "Well there have been two people that have come in today because the weather is just lovely," said Gaumer. Staying indoors might be the best way to enjoy the festivities.

Since we've had a lot of questions about Arkansas snows in April and/or May, here are some statistics worked up by Brian Smith, one of our senior forecasters. For Arkansas: Latest accumulating snow:  0.2 inch at Corning on April 24, 1910 Latest snow:  Trace at Fayetteville, Gravette, and Harrison on April 30, 1903 For Little Rock: Latest accumulating snow:  0.8 inch on March 30, 1987 Latest snow:  Trace on April 19, 1983 We've gotten e-mail messages and seen comments online about people saying they had seen accumulating snow at various places in Arkansas in May.  While it's important to remember that weather records are taken from official observing stations only, the dates and years that people have said they saw snow in Arkansas in May would have been virtually impossible.
