SPRINGFIELD --  A tractor trailer that caught on fire Sunday afternoon on I-44 sent a highway patrol trooper to the hospital, and shut down a lane of traffic for more than two hours. Video of the incident was captured by viewer Ricky Brashear; it shows the intense flames and thick smoke.      The incident started when a rear tire went flat and sparked flames, which ignited the trailer.   It happened at mile marker 150. A trooper passing by saw the fire, and helped the driver separate the tractor from the trailer.

FAIR PLAY, Mo. -- Polk County Coroner Roy Harms says smoke inhalation is the cause of death for a man who died during a house fire on Tuesday.   The victim was James Coleman, 70. Harms says a cousin had visited with Coleman earlier in the day, and returned to find the house on fire around noon.  The cousin tried to rescue Coleman but was repelled by heat and smoke.  Coleman used a wheel chair and an oxygen tank. The Dunnegan Fire Department found the house along Missouri 32 in Fair Play fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- One woman is being treated for smoke inhalation after a fire late Monday night in east Springfield. The flames ignited in the 3300 block of Southern Hills Boulevard just after 10 p.m. Firefighters say the woman living in the home had already escaped the flames by the time they arrived. Fire crews were able to successfully extinguish the blaze. Investigators point to an electrical short as the cause of the fire.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Firefighters are investigating what sparked a fire at a home east of Springfield early Wednesday morning. Crews were called to a home on the 4700 block of Blackthorn Lane around midnight. That's near Chestnut Expressway and Highway 65. Witnesses say a woman woke up to the smell of smoke and helped her family get out of the home. One person was treated for smoke inhalation Damage is concentrated towards the back of the home.

STRAFFORD, Mo. -- Strafford Fire Department crews pulled a mother from a burning home in the 2200 block of North Avery Quick Lane early Friday.  A child also got out safely. The mother was treated for smoke inhalation and likely will make a full recovery.  The Strafford fire chief says the flames started in the utility room, and the mobile home had working smoke alarms.  The fire was reported about 2:30 a.m.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Firefighters were on the scene Tuesday morning of an apartment fire at the Old Monterey Apartment complex a block south of Battlefield Road at Jefferson Avenue.  The fire broke out at about 9 a.m. One resident had to be evacuated and was transported to a hospital for possible smoke inhalation. The fire broke out in a vacant unit. A member of the maintenance crew was doing work, and tried to put out the fire. One woman on the third floor had to be rescued.  She has minor injuries but will be fine.

Springfield, MO - 2 people were hospitalized Monday night after a grease fire in a Springfield home.  Firefighters say a woman suffered second degree burns to her arms, chest and legs when she came in contact with hot grease.  A neighbor who came to help her suffered smoke inhalation.  Both people are expected to be okay.  It happened at a home on south Grant Avenue, near Madison.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- At least seven people were treated for injuries following a house fire in central Springfield on Saturday morning.  The injured include two young girls under age 12.  Both were are badly burned.  A paramedic, a police officer and a firefighter were treated for smoke inhalation. Fire crews arrived at the burning home on Fremont Avenue at McDaniel Street just after 9 a.m. Saturday.  Residents who had escaped the house told paramedics that the two little girls were still inside.

A man is in the hospital, recovering after his duplex burst into flames. Officers say the duplex in the 900 block of North Broadway caught fire just before 5 p.m. Saturday and crews had a hard time getting into the house because the man had placed a couch in front of the door after having a fight with his wife. The victim then passed out from smoke inhalation while trying to get some belongings out of the building. Fire Marshal believes the blaze started thanks to an unattended candle.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A man was burned when a fire broke out inside his SUV in southwest Springfield on Saturday afternoon.  Authorities say the man was driving south on Lone Pine Avenue near Sequiota Park when he hit the brakes.  That sent a plastic container of gasoline flying forward, which contacted a cigarette that the man was smoking.  He was taken to the hospital with burns and smoke inhalation, but is expected to survive.  His SUV did not....

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Four members of a family escaped from their burning home in northeast Springfield early Tuesday.  Someone called 911 after seeing the home on fire in the 1900 block of North Burton Avenue, north of East Blaine Street, around 4:30 a.m. Flames were coming from one of the home's bedrooms by the time fire crews arrived, but they were able to put out the blaze.  Some family members were treated for smoke inhalation. Investigators are trying to pinpoint a cause for the fire.

MANES, Mo. -- A fire killed a man early Sunday in northern Wright County.  Bradley Strube, 24, died in a shop near his rural home where the coroner says Strube worked on vehicles as a hobby. Wright County Coroner Ben Hurtt says the fire was about 4 a.m. about five miles south of Manes, off Highway JJ west of Missouri 95.  Hurtt says Strube lived with his grandfather but sometimes spend the night in the shop.  Hurtt says Strube died of asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation. Firefighters from Northern Wright County and Mountain Grove departments fought the fire.  Mountain Grove Fire Chief Mark Bushong said nothing is left of the shop.  He said vehicles were burned in the fire.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - A duplex in southwest Springfield was heavily damaged by a fire on Monday night.  The flames ignited just before midnight in the 3300 block of South Warren Avenue, near South Cox Road at Walnut Lawn Street. Two people were able to get out okay, but one was treated for smoke inhalation. A deputy fire chief says a fire wall kept the flames from spreading to the other unit. Five departments responded to the fire. There is no word yet on a cause.

NEOSHO, Mo. -- A fire killed a 7-year-old boy and injured his 4-year-old sister early Thursday.  The Neosho Fire Department says crews responded to the mobile home fire near Palm Road at Kingsland Road southwest of Neosho just before 2 a.m. Firefighters found the two children in a bedroom and ambulances took them to hospitals.  Liam Lane, 7, died while being treated.  Sandra Lane, 4, is hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Two adults escaped through a bedroom window.  Josh Lane, 34, and Kassi Lane, 30, were treated and released from a hospital in Joplin.

FAIR PLAY, Mo. -- Emergency responders found a man's body inside a home that burned down on Tuesday.   An autopsy on Wednesday will help investigators determine if the body belonged to James Coleman, the 70-year-old retired man who lived in the home, as well as his cause of death. The fire on Main Street in Fair Play, just north of Highway 32, was reported about noon.  Dunnegan Fire Chief Matt Simmons says someone tried to reach the resident, who used a wheelchair and an oxygen tank.  The heat and smoke prevented the rescue.
