No area high school had ever won a high school state soccer championship until the Springfield Catholic girls team captured consecutive state crowns over the past two seasons. Now, after years of frustration, the Catholic boys team has joined them, becoming the first male team from southwest Missouri to achieve that level of excellence. At the Class 1 state championship at Blue Springs on Saturday, the Fightin' Irish boys squad completed a perfect 29-0-1 season with a 1-0 victory over Kansas City's Pembroke Hill as the only goal came on a spectacular header by Mitchell Moncada that caught Pembroke off guard in the 79th minute. And while that state title will go down in history as the first-ever for a boys team from our area, it also marked the end of three seasons of the Irish knocking on the door but never getting in...until now. The Irish had made it to the final four in those three previous trips, finishing third once and second twice. In each of the past two years, they'd lost in the state finals to Whitfield. Whitfield didn't make it to the championship this year, and the third time proved to be the charm for Cathoic, who now can boast of being the first school from southwest Missouri to produce both a girls and boys soccer championship.

ROGERSVILLE, Mo. - Water wells in the Rogersville area have been tested for a chemical known as TCE for several years. Now, the Environmental Protection Agency thinks a small cluster of wells in and around the Compass Plaza on the west side of town should be put on the Superfund National Priorities List. Many of the businesses in the area have not been effected because they're on city water. Being added to the Superfund list means further study and possible cleanup on the government's dime.

ROGERSVILLE, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Economic Development approved a $200,000 grant for the city to make infrastructure improvements that will help a company expand. A news release says the project will provide "a safe, reliable source of potable water" for Mid-Am Metal Forming, which specializes in bending and forming metals for the architectural, aerospace and marine industries. Mid-Am Metal Forming is a mile east of Rogersville along Business Route 60 next to other light industrial businesses on property not served by city water or sewer, the news release says. Businesses in the area use individual wells and septic systems. Last September, Mid-Am discovered its well tested positive for E.coli bacteria, and the state told it to install a disinfection system, drill a new well or find an alternative source of water.

ROGERSVILLE, Mo. -- Less revenue is reaching school districts across Missouri, causing an uncertain future for many districts. The Logan-Rogersville district is one of many in the Ozarks that are dealing with those budget cuts. The district cut more than $1.3 million in spending from the last school year. It's a sizeable number but, like many districts, they knew it was coming and took steps to make the cuts as painless as possible. "We started having conversations in our district about two years ago," said Logan-Rogersville Superintendent Jeremy Tucker.
