SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State women's soccer team (8-3-1, 2-0-0) remained unbeaten since Labor Day with a 1-0 win over visiting Illinois State (6-5-0, 2-0-0) on Friday night at Plaster Field. "The defense really stepped up tonight," said head coach Rob Brewer . "We played a quality team tonight and were fortunate to come away with a victory. We still need to be a bit more confident on the attack and maybe that can afford us some breathing room. " The Bears jumped out to an early lead in the fifth minute of play.

The Redbirds will encourage fans to sign up for organ donation . NORMAL, Ill. - The Missouri State Lady Bears clinched at least a share of their first Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship since 2005 Sunday with an 80-76 overtime victory over second-place Illinois State at Redbird Arena in Normal, Ill. The Lady Bears (20-6, 13-3 MVC) snapped Illinois State's (16-11, 11-5) 24-game home win streak against league opponents while winning their 10th consecutive game overall. MSU sits two games ahead of the Redbirds and Wichita State with two games to play thanks to Indiana State's upset of WSU Sunday afternoon.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State Lady Bears shot 59.4 percent and outscored visiting Illinois State 56-33 after halftime for an 83-68 Missouri Valley Conference victory Sunday afternoon at JQH Arena. The Lady Bears (13-6, 6-3) had 15 assists against two turnovers in the second stanza and overcame a 21-0 first-half ISU (11-9, 6-3) run to move into a tie with the Redbirds and UNI for second in the league standings halfway through the MVC season. Karly Buer scored a career-high 25 points (16 in the second half)

NORMAL, Ill. - Missouri State (12-10, 5-5) lost in overtime for the third time this season on Wednesday as the Bears let a nine-point second-half lead slip through their hands at Illinois State, 76-69, in Missouri Valley Conference play. The Redbirds (13-8, 5-5) were led by Jackie Carmichael with 26 points and 16 rebounds, while Jon Ekey scored 10. Kyle Weems led three MSU players in double figures, while Christian Kirk added 11 points and 9 rebounds. Jarmar Gulley also scored 10 for MSU, which fell to 1-3 in overtime games this season.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri State volleyball player Olivia Brand is the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon (Sept. 19). Brand averaged 5.00 kills and 5.60 points per set and hit .417 in a pair of Missouri State wins while posting the most prolific offensive match by a Missouri State freshman in 17 years Friday against Illinois State. Brand also averaged 2.40 digs, 0.60 blocks and had a service ace on the weekend. Against the Redbirds, Brand was inserted midway through the second set and had six kills on seven attempts, then provided 10 kills in the third set alone as the Bears began their comeback to a five-set win. The rookie had four more kills in the fourth set and scored the final point in the fifth to cap a 22-kill match in roughly three sets of court time.

Albert Pujols went 5-for-6 at the plate with five RBI, four runs and three homeruns in Game 3 of the World Series. The performance helps the Cardinals take a 2-1 lead in the series thanks to a 16-7 victory. Pujols smashed a 3-run homerun in the 6th inning of 431-feet to left field to give the Cardinals an 11-6 lead. He'd add a 2-run, 424-foot homer in the 7th and a solo blast in the 9th that traveled just shy of 400-feet. Pujols ties Reggie Jackson and Babe Ruth as the only players in baseball history to have three homeruns in one World Series game.

NORMAL, Ill. -- A 9-0 run late in the second half propelled Missouri State to a 68-59 road victory over Illinois State here Saturday, making MSU the first Missouri Valley Conference team with 20 Division I victories this season. The Bears (20-6, 12-3 MVC) never trailed in the contest and responded to a flurry by the Redbirds following the under-eight-minute media timeout in the second half. A quick shot by John Wilkins brought ISU back with 49-46 with 7:48 to play, but that's when MSU got going.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State Lady Bears (18-6, 11-3 Missouri Valley Conference) make their last road trip of the season this week with visits to Indiana State (12-14, 6-8) at 6:05 p.m. Friday and Illinois State (15-10, 10-4) at 2:05 p.m. Sunday. The Lady Bears defeated Indiana State 84-70 on Jan. 27 at JQH Arena, using four players scoring double figures and a 46-36 rebounding margin to dispatch the Sycamores, who hit 11 three-pointers in the game. In the first meeting with Illinois State, the Redbirds held an eight-point halftime lead after a 21-0 run in the first period, but the Lady Bears stormed back with 56 points in the second half for an 83-68 victory.
