NIXA, Mo -- If it plugs in or runs on batteries, it can be recycled in Nixa this weekend! Often times, companies will charge you money to dispose of your unwanted electronics. On June 2, the city of Nixa will let you do it for free. It's not a good idea to just throw your old electronics in the trash. Electronic waste can be dangerous on the inside--lead, mercury, even arsenic. If the devices break, they can leak and contaminate the environment. (EDITED PRESS RELEASE) - The City of Nixa, in association with Computer Trade Recycling Center, will hold an e-cycle event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 2 at The Nixa Community Center, 701 N. Taylor Way. Items accepted include: laptops*, desktop computers*, lawn equipment, televisions, cell phones, telephones, cameras, batteries, printers, large and small appliances, stereo equipment, LCD and CRT TVs and monitors (limit one per household)

NIXA, Mo. -- A Scout leader here has been selected as one of the top 55 scoutmasters of the Boy Scouts of America.  Timothy Russell will receive his award at the BSA's National Annual Meeting in Grapevine, Texas, on May 23-25. Russell was scoutmaster of Troop 200, charged by Nixa Christian Church, from 2009 to 2012.  He is now an assistant scoutmaster of the same troop.  During his tenure as scoutmaster, the troop averaged about 75 youth members and 40 adult leaders, making it one of the largest troops in the 31 counties of the Ozark Trails Council, which is based in Springfield.  Russell, who is a regional wildlife supervisor for the Missouri Department of Conservation, also led more than 25 young men to achieve the rank of Eagle in his time as scoutmaster.  Over his four years in that position, Russell spent countless hours in meetings and conferences helping the young men learn new skills and advance in their ranks.  He spent hundreds of nights sleeping in the woods to give the Scouts opportunities to learn outdoor skills, leadership, team building, and simply enjoy the outdoors.  “We have arranged this special opportunity for 55 top Scoutmasters to be recognized for their dedicated service and to participate in program development sessions with the volunteer and professional leadership of the National Boy Scout Council,” said the BSA's Chief Scout Executive Wayne Brock.
