COLUMBIA, Mo. - Frank Haith and the Missouri Tigers received what they wanted.  Well it is sort of "the road less traveled. " The No. 2 seeded Missouri Tigers (30-4) will open play in the 2012 NCAA Tournament Friday in Omaha against the No. 15 seeded Norfolk State Spartans (25-9).  Michigan State is the No. 1 seed in the West regional. Mizzou won the Big 12 Tournament championship over Baylor Saturday night.  However, that was not enough to move the Tigers to the top line.  The selection committee rewarded Missouri with opening rounds trip to Omaha.  Missouri was not rewarded with a Midwest Regional bracket.  That regional finishes in St. Louis.

NEW YORK CITY, NY - Surprise, surprise. The San Francisco 49ers selected Missouri Tigers defensive end Aldon Smith with the No. 7 overall pick in Thursday's first round of the NFL Draft.  Draft analysts projected Raytwon, Missouri native as a mid-first round pick. The 6'2, 262 pound pass-rusher is considered a few seasons away from being an every down player in the league.  Smith recorded 11.5 sacks in earning Big 12 freshman of the year.  He added 5.5 sacks a season ago, limited by an injury early in the season.  Smith will likely play outside linebacker in the 49ers defensive scheme.
