SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating a tractor-trailer crash in west Springfield, slowing traffic on I-44.  It happened around 1 p.m. near the Highway 160 exit in the westbound lanes.  The truck ended up in the median.  No other vehicles were involved.  Nobody was hurt.

DEEPWATER, Mo. -- A teenager from Osceola died in a crash in southern Henry County.  Troopers say 17-year-old Royanna Leiber ran off Highway Z just east of Missouri 13 about 12:30 a.m. Saturday and overturned.  The Missouri Highway Patrol says Leiber was not wearing a seat belt.

HARTVILLE, Mo. -- The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that killed a commercial truck driver on Thursday afternoon. Troopers say the driver drove the truck off Missouri 5 and struck a tree north of Hartville.   The truck was hauling medical oxygen tanks.  It was a one-vehicle crash.

A man from Joplin is dead after a crash in Jasper County.  The Missouri Highway Patrol says Travis Weber lost control of his SUV on Highway 59 near Diamond Wednesday morning. The vehicle flipped and weber was thrown from the cab.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  Troopers say Weber wasn't wearing his seatbelt.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.--The Missouri Highway Patrol says it was a driver from Bolivar killed in a crash late Sunday night  on I-44 around the 76 mile marker in West Springfield. Troopers say Marjorie Knickerbocker, 73, was using a crossover path in the median to try to turn around, and pulled into the path of a westbound tractor trailer. Knickerbocker was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer was from Alton, Missouri. He was not injured.

NEAR PHILLIPSBURG, Mo. -- The Missouri Highway Patrol rerouted traffic on I-44 between Marshfield and Lebanon much of Thursday evening after a semi caught fire. The fire closed the westbound lanes for several hours near Phillipsburg.   Troopers rerouted traffic onto outer roads.  The interstate reopened shortly after 10:00 p.m.  The driver of the semi was not hurt. Viewers submitted pictures of the crash while stuck in traffic.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Mo. -- It was a deadly end to a police chase near Mountain View Missouri.   The Missouri Highway Patrol reports police spotted a car driven by an escaped inmate Steven Mitchell.  Police say he had escaped from the Jackson County, Arkansas jail.  The chase started near Mountain View, Missouri.  The driver lost control on Highway T.  The car burst into flames.  Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman with him before the chase started faces warrants for helping him escape.

HUMANSVILLE, Mo.-- The Missouri Highway Patrol says a 56-year-old man from Humansville was killed early Sunday morning in a two-car crash on Highway 123 three miles south of his hometown. The patrol identified the victim as Dennis A. Mitchell. The accident happened around 12:30 am Sunday. The patrol says Mitchell's car was northbound when it ran off the right side of the road, returned to the road, drove across the center line and struck an oncoming pickup truck. The patrol says Mitchell was not wearing a seat belt.

SPRINGFIELD -- In an effort to curb dangerous driving, the Springfield Police Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol teamed up on Friday to conduct another "Operation Safe Ride. " Law enforcers targeted traffic violators who pose a threat to motorcyclists. Officers concentrated on hazardous moving violations such as speeding, running red lights, and driving carelessly. Out of the 55 vehicles stopped, 41 citations and 34 warnings were issued. In addition to drivers receiving moving violation tickets, two people were arrested on outstanding misdemeanor warrants, one person was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant, and three people were cited for having open containers of alcohol in a moving vehicle.

MONEGAW SPRINGS, Mo. -- The Water Patrol division of the Missouri Highway Patrol says a 58-year-old man from Osceola died after an accident on the Osage River.  Investigators say Richard Harrington was in a utility boat with another man on Wednesday morning.  When he stood to check a trotline, the boat capsized. Harrington tried to swim to shore, but stopped in the water and started floating face down in the water.  He was unresponsive and not breathing by the time he was pulled ashore.  The second man on board was able to swim to shore and was not injured.  An autopsy may help investigators determine the exact cause of Harrington's death.

LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. - Two people from Texas were hurt when their boat exploded on Lake of the Ozarks Wednesday evening. Allen T. Wienecke, 52, and his son Jonathen T. Wienecke, 20, both of Sugar Land, Texas, suffered injuries when their 1999 Starcraft boat suddenly exploded as Allen Wienecke tried to restart the boat after fueling it up. SHELL KNOB, Mo. - Eight people received minor injuries as the result of an equipment failure that caused a bus to crash near Shell Knob on Monday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says equipment failed on a 1995 International bus as the 49-year-old driver was navigating it along Stallion Bluff Road three miles north of Shell Knob. The bus struck a tree, causing injuries to the driver and seven others. Two of the injured are minors; the ages of the others involved are unknown, according to a Highway Patrol crash report.

ATV rider seriously hurt in crash in Howell County NEAR WILLOW SPRINGS, Mo. - A 53-year-old Willow Springs man was seriously hurt when the all-terrain vehicle he was riding on was struck on a county road in rural Howell County Sunday night. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports John S. Luton was making a left turn on his 2006 Suzuki ATV from the eastbound lane of County Road 5120 eight miles south of Willow Springs, when he was struck by a 1994 Ford truck. Luton was taken by air ambulance to Cox South Hospital in Springfield with what the patrol described as serious injuries.

      WEST PLAINS, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper who died while training for a triathlon has been laid to rest in Howell County.  KKDY-FM reports more than 450 people attended Friday's funeral for Sgt. HOLLISTER, Mo - Hundreds of boaters are gearing up for some time on the lake. And the Missouri Highway Patrol is joining a national effort called Operation Dry Water, that's aimed at keeping people safer on the water. The goal of these special patrols is for officers to be more visible on the lake so they can find and remove people who are drunk and operating a boat. "This is the busiest time of year for this area so you see the increase in boater traffic and you also see the increase in crashes and BWI arrests," said Sargent Mike Watson with the Missouri Highway Patrol.

LAKE WEDINGTON, Ark. -- David Finley, a sergeant with the Missouri Highway Patrol, Troop G, drowned over the weekend in Arkansas. Finley drowned in Lake Wedington, in Arkansas.  He was 43-years old.  Witnesses say they saw Finley struggling in the water before going under. Finley was swimming in the lake as he was in training for the Ozark Valley Triathlon. Because of the drowning, organizers of the Ozark Valley Triathlon canceled the event on Sunday. Sgt. Marty Elmore, Spokesperson for the Missouri Highway Patrol Troop G says Finley had been with the Missouri Highway Patrol since 1995, and was with Troop G for all his years with the MHP.  He was assigned as the commander of Zone 6, covering southern Howell County and Oregon County.

CLINTON, Mo. -- A multi-state investigation leads to dog fighting charges in Henry County. John P. Dulley, Jr., 49, of Kansas City Mo. faces 12 counts of keeping dogs with the intent to fight.  Each count is punishable by a maximum of four years in prison.  The ASPCA assisted the Henry County Sheriff's Office in the seizure of a dozen dogs on a farmstead on Highway K.  Investigators say similar seizures related to the broader dog fighting investigation...

STOCKTON, Mo. -- The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating the drowning of a swimmer on Stockton Lake Saturday. 36-year-old Christopher Roper was swimming at Stockton Lake's public beach No. 1 when witnesses say he went underwater without surfacing immediately.  Medical personnel resuscitated Roper at the scene.  He later died at Citizens Memorial Hospital. This is the second drowning for for Troop D of the Missouri Highway Patrol in 2013.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A man from Springfield is in serious condition after the SUV he was driving was hit by a train on Farm Road 97 near Elwood on Thursday evening.  A Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report says Justin Napper, 21, failed to yield and pulled into the path of the train, when he was struck. The crash was just before 9 p.m.  People who arrived at the crossing just after the crash said Napper was alert and speaking.  Rescue workers were able to remove him from the wreckage, where he was transported to a medical helicopter.

GREENE COUNTY, Mo. - A motorcyclist from Springfield died when his motorcycle ran off an on-ramp and went airborne Sunday afternoon. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Eric E. Fannin, 68, of Springfield, was riding a 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he ran off the left side of the on-ramp that merges westbound Missouri Route 360 with Interstate 44 west of Republic. The motorcycle struck a rock and went airborne, flipping the motorcycle over. Fannin was pronounced dead at the scene.
