SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Just how ready are our kids to learn? KY3 and the Springfield News-Leader are teaming up for a joint initiative that examines if our kids are "Ready to Learn. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- We're introducing a new resource for parents on our Ask an Expert message board.  It's called Ask-a-Child-Care-Expert. So many parents with young children have questions nearly every day about their physical, social and emotional development.  You might have concerns that don't necessarily warrant a doctor's visit, but you'd like some advice from a professional. Ask-a-Child-Care-Expert can be that resource.  You can post your questions about child development issues.

WARSAW, Mo. -- The Benton County Food Pantry feeds thousands of families every month.  Just before Thanksgiving, it was in jeopardy of closing.  But, thanks in part to a story on KY3 News, donations have started pouring in to the pantry. "People have been donating food, and it's just like we're back into full operation.  It's just been incredible," said Debbie Swerline of the Benton County Food Pantry. This little pantry, tucked away in a Warsaw mini mall, trucks in enough food every month to feed more than 1,100 families.  When the engine went out on the organization's truck this month, people in Benton County were left with little hope.

People in many parts of Missouri are cleaning up after strong thunderstorms and even a few tornadoes ripped through the state. No injuries were reported from the storms on Tuesday. Another round of severe weather is predicted for later this week. Three tornadoes reportedly touched down in Pike County in northeast Missou ri, downing power lines and damaging roofs. High winds in southeast Missouri, possibly from a tornado, destroyed barns and knocked down trees. KY3 reporter Jay Scherder's family is recovering from the severe storms and from a tornado that hit in Bowling Green.  His cousin's roof was torn off his home and several pieces of farm equipment were damaged or destroyed.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- You never saw Truman Krumholz on camera or heard his voice, but KY3 would not be on the air without his electronic wisdom.  He came up with ways for KY3 to do live broadcasts from all around Springfield and from the dedication of Table Rock Dam in 1959, in the days when broadcast equipment was bulky, not easily portable, and satellite and microwave transmissions were not yet invented. On Oct. 1, 1953, at 4:47 p.m., KYTV went on the air.  At that moment, engineer Krumholz signed us on, or tried to, with the first piece of film: the national anthem.

Notch, Mo. --  Silver Dollar City's newest wooden coaster, Outlaw Run, officially opens to the public Friday, March 15.  But Wednesday a small group of park employees, community leaders, and reporters got to test the ride out and share their findings. I climbed aboard the park's newest and coolest $10 million addition, in a front row seat, with the SDC co-founder Sherry Herschend. The 16-story, nearly vertical, 81-degree drop starts things off, and if you're not ready, it will take you by surprise.
