SPRINGFIELD, Mo., -- For the past 26 years, KY3 and the Children's Miracle Network have teamed up to help kids in local hospitals feel better and get healthier. We're kicking off our annual telethon Saturday night right after the 10p.m. newscast.  Tune in and meet some of the incredible children who benefit from your generous donations. Unique to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals of CoxHealth is the fact that 100-percent of all funds raised remains local, and 100-percent of funds raised directly benefits the children of the Ozarks.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo -- Each year, The Salvation Army helps hundreds of Ozarks residents through a variety of Christmas assistance programs and services.  Helping so many requires the help of many others through volunteering and donations. Last year, the Salvation Army in Springfield spent nearly $2.5 million. Almost $2 million of that came from public donations. The need keeps on growing in the Ozarks, as the economy continues to struggle and families have no where else to turn.

Big honors for KY3 News and its anchors.  KY3 swept the TV personality categories in 417 Magazine's annual "Best of" issue , currently on sale. KY3 Anchor Lisa Rose was honored for the 15th time as the "Best Female TV Personality. " KY3 Anchor Ethan Forhetz was voted the "Best Male TV Personality. " KY3 Sports Director Ned Reynolds added another "Best Sportscaster" award to his collection. And Brandon Beck was named again as the "Best Meteorologist" in 417-land.

KY3 News will add 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. newscasts on The Ozarks CW, beginning Aug. 22. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Following a KY3 News investigation, the Missouri Attorney General's office sued a used car dealer in Springfield.  The lawsuit accused Excel Auto Group LLC of Springfield of advertising, marketing and selling vehicles that the business claimed had lower mileages than they actually did. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- It's the sound of the season. The Salvation Army starts its annual Red Kettle Campaign on Friday. Bell ringers will be stationed at shops all across the area. The Salvation Army seeks hundreds of volunteers over the next couple months in order to reach its fund-raising goal.   Money raised helps programs for children, for seniors, shelter and housing. The Salvation Army will also host a community Thanksgiving dinner.  Last year's holiday meal fed nearly 300 people.  It's also organizing Christmas gift baskets with food and toys for kids.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo -- Before you take a bite of your breakfast cereal, take note of the latest recall from the FDA. They have initiated a voluntary recall due to the possible presence of fragments of flexible metal mesh from a faulty manufacturing part. KY3 found a recalled 24 ounce box at a local grocery store. After crushing the cereal and going over the remains with a magnet, several metal pieces were found. Recalled products include only Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite Size Original and Mini-Wheats Unfrosted Bite Size with the letters KB, AP or FK before or after the Best If Used Before date.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- A KY3 investigation leads to an investigation by Missouri's Attorney General's office. A used car dealership in Springfield -- Excel Auto Group, LLC -- near Scenic and Walnut Lawn -- can no longer operate after being raided on Thursday by the Department of Revenue and the AG's office.  At issue-- complaints about rolling back odometers. SPRINGFIELd, Mo. --  It was a big honor Thursday night for some of Springfield's most impressive "young people. " The Springfield Business Journal held a party to celebrate this year's "40 under 40" honorees. Among them was KY3's own Sara Forhetz.  She was recognized for her charity work and her stories that enhance the community. The theme of tonight's celebration was the theme of a birthday party.  SBJ has partnered with local charity Wish I May, to provide "Happy Birthdays" to underprivileged children and their parents in the Springfield area.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo --   Bringing hope to Kenya is the goal of a new documentary created by a former KY3 staffer. The film shines a spotlight on post election violence and the fallout. The documentary is titled Kenya--Until Hope is Found. Drury University Filmmaker in Residence Patrick Mureithi says the film isn't meant to be political or have an agenda, other than helping a embattled country find some peace. The presidential elections in Kenya in 2007 were disputed after the polls closed.  "The political protests quickly turned into political violence.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo --  President Obama will have his hands full Tuesday evening--immigration, North Korea, gun control, and the ongoing war in Afghanistan. SPRINGFIELD, -- At least one Ozarks native is hunkered down, waiting for all of the snow to melt.   Ian Mackey just moved to Boston from Springfield. There's two feet of snow outside his door. He can't go anywhere, but thanks to the internet he can chat with KY3 News. "There's no where to park and even if you can get your car out, there's no where to get it back in. Every hour or two there's plows that we see ... usually teams of plows... trying to clean it effectively as possible.  They are doing an awesome job," said Mackey.

DIAMOND, Mo. -- Southwest Missouri is home to a giant of American history, George Washington Carver.  February's designation as "Black History Month" provides an ideal time to recognize the profound and permanent mark made by Carver on American life. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond, Missouri.  It is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 pm.  The website, which includes directions, can be found HERE. 10 years ago, Ellen Cox of the National Park Service, helped KY3 news share aspects of the historic site and the remarkable life of George Washington Carver.  His example of selfless service, scientific achievement, and interracial cooperation is unequaled in the history of America.
