SPRINGFIELD, Mo -- Often times, civil court is your only avenue in getting payback when it comes to deception and fraud. However, there is a little known law on the books that can help you in these types of situations. It's called 'The Missouri Merchandising Practices Act' (MMPA). It's a law designed and intended to protect consumers from the use of deception, fraud, false pretense, false promises, misrepresentations, unfair practices or the concealment, suppression, or omission of any material fact in connection with the sale or advertisement of any merchandise in trade or commerce. If you suffer a loss of money or property purchased for you or your family, you can bring a civil action for actual damages, punitive damages, and your attorney fees.
