SPRINGFIELD, Mo.--  Police were called on Tuesday morning because of an armed man acting strangely at a Kum & Go store just west of downtown.  It's a spot that officers frequent, but now they're getting some help from the business to clean up the neighborhood's reputation. It's a low-income area; more than 95 percent of kids at Campbell Elementary School, for example, receive free and reduced-price lunches.  Unfortunately, it also comes with a lot of crime.  But, despite another call to the Kum & Go on Grant Avenue at Mount Vernon Street , Springfield police are pleased to see some activity of another kind.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Filling your gas tank today can give teachers more momentum in local classrooms. It's called "Gallons for Growth," and it helps to support Springfield Public Schools. For every gallon of gas you pump at any of the 38 Kum-N-Go locations in Springfield from now until midnight tonight, Kum-N-Go will donate 3 cents to the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools. That money will then go to fund grants that SPS teachers applied for in June -- for things like iPads in classrooms, books, and field trips for students.
