KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Chiefs have released quarterback Matt Cassel, according to NFL.com. Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com reports that Cassel was released Thursday morning in a move that was long anticipated after the Chiefs traded for former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith. ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Kansas City Chiefs have strengthened the middle of the defense. The Chiefs have signed free agent linebacker Brandon Siler to a new deal. Terms have not been disclosed. Siler played for the San Diego Charges the past four season. He made 13 starts. The Charges selected Siler in the seventh-round in the 2007 draft out of the University of Florida. The run-stopping linebacker is expected to shore up at need at the position after the sudden retirement of Mike Vrabel.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Former Kansas City Chiefs running-back Ed Podolak is hospitalized in Arizona after he was hit by a car. Scottsdale police say Podolak, 63, was not inside a crosswalk when he was hit. Officers say the driver of the car that hit Podolak tried to brake but couldn't stop fast enough. His injuries are described as non-life-threatening. The University of Iowa graduate spent all nine of his NFL seasons with the Chiefs. Podalak rushed for 4,451 yards and 34 touchdowns.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Add another star to the Kansas City Chiefs injured reserve list. Pro-Bowl running back Jamaal Charles has been ruled out for the season after injuring his left knee in a 48-3 loss against the Detroit Tigers. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The 2012 Pro Bowl selections prove the Kansas City Chiefs have talent, despite a 2-13 record heading into Sunday's finale against the Denver Broncos. The NFL announced Wednesday five Chiefs will represent the organization in the annual all-star game in Honolulu, Hawaii. Safety Eric Berry and linebacker Tamba Hali have been designated starters for the AFC. Running-back Jamal Charles, punter Dustin Colquitt and linebacker Derrick Johnson have been selected as reserves.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas Chiefs roller coaster ride in 2011 has its biggest dip. The Chiefs fired Head Coach Todd Haley Monday morning He has been relieved of his duties effective immediately. "This was a difficult decision but one that we feel is best for the future of the Chiefs," said Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Nike revealed the new look for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2012 season Tuesday morning. Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe modeled the new look at an unveiling in Brooklyn, New York. The uniforms still highlight the traditional red and yellow look. They also fit more snug to the player's body. Nike is now the official uniform maker of the National Football League. Reebok had held the contract for a dozen seasons.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - ESPN is reporting Kansas City Chiefs receiver Jonathan Baldwin will likely miss the rest of the preseason after injuring his wrist. The rookie did not injure it on the field, but instead during a skirmish with running back Thomas Jones in the locker room. Baldwin was the Chiefs first round selection in April out of the University of Pittsburgh. Jones rushed for nearly 900 yards last season. The Chiefs play at Baltimore Friday night in the second preseason game.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry's season is likely over. The second-year star suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in Kansas City's 41-7 loss at home to the Buffalo Bills. Berry injured the knee fighting off a block from Bills receiver Steve Johnson in the first quarter. Berry earned a Pro Bowl invitation in his rookie season. He recorded 72 tackles, also intercepting four passes. The Chiefs selected the former Tennessee all-America fifth overall in the 2010 draft.
