SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- I was in my early 30s, trying to convince myself that maybe today was the day I'd begin losing weight. But, sadly, that goal ended by late morning when I'd say, "Tomorrow's the day!" I'd look at my out-of-shape overweight body in the mirror and be so depressed that only some ice cream seemed to cheer me up. I had at least 70 pounds to lose and, since I was only 5-foot-1, it really showed up!!! So I did that for weeks until I finally had it with myself and stuck with it all day!

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Gas prices usually drop after the Labor Day holiday, but the pain at the pump continues. While the national average flirts with $4.00 a gallon, businesses in the Ozarks are coping with higher gas bills. "We have close to 5,000 trucks. We're nearing a couple millions gallons a week in consumption," said Prime Inc., management team member John Hancock. Filling up the gas tanks at Prime isn't cheap. "To fill the truck up, $1,000 is gone just like that," said Hancock.

SPRINGFIELD, -- It's a summer tradition, buying a cold ice cream treat from the ice cream man. You'd think business would be booming with the high temperatures, but that's not the case. For more than 50 years, the Kiddie Kart company has helped folks keep cool in the Springfield area. While this summer might be one of the hottest on record, business is not. "The hotter it is, is kind of an oxymoron, because it slows down our business. People can't get outside in time. They can't hear us because their air conditioners are running," said Just Hurst with Kiddie Kart.
