REEDS SPRING, Mo.-- Saturday night marks the fifth annual Guns vs. Hoses match-up in Stone County. The basketball game is between the fire department and law enforcement departments. The "Guns" won the first three games. The "Hoses" won last year. This is the first year both departments are under new management: Sheriff Doug Rader and Fire Chief David Gyger. The Guns-N-Hoses event was created in 2009 for two reasons. The main reason was to raise funds for the Stone County Sheriff's Office DARE program, and the Southern Stone County Fire Protection District Honor Guard. The DARE program exists only by the generosity of the community that donates to the program. It has been able to operate without the use of any tax dollars. The program is currently being taught to 5 th grade students in every school district in Stone County. Officers believe that they must reach students at a young age to give them a chance at success in the future. There will also be a silent auction during the night to help raise more funds. All of the money raised is split between the Sheriff's Office and the Fire Department once all of the costs are paid.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Gov. Jay Nixon said Tuesday that the Department of Revenue will no longer scan or retain certificates of qualification for Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) permits. The department's License Bureau offices started keeping those documents when it started using a central system of printing driver's licenses to save money. Holders of CCW permits can have their driver's licenses show they have permits in case they're stopped and a concealed gun is found. "It has been determined that the scanning and retention of concealed carry certificates are not essential to the integrity of the license issuance process," Gov. Nixon said in a news release. "We will continue to work with policymakers to ensure the security and privacy of our license issuance process.

Springfield, Mo. -- A Missouri man says his worst fears are confirmed with revelations that confidential information about 163,000 Missourians with conceal and carry permits was shared with the feds two different times. Eric Griffin's court case in Stoddard County is at the center of a growing guns and privacy controversy. His court claim contends his rights were violated when he went to a southeast Missouri license bureau to finalize his conceal and carry permit. He had already been approved by the sheriff's department and wanted to update his license, and Griffin's attorney said that's when the DMV worker requested personal documents from Griffin. "His birth certificate, his Social Security card, a utility bill that proved his residence, his conceal carry permit itself," said Griffin's attorney Russell Oliver.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo - There are two things showing no signs of cooling off: the heated gun debate, and hot sales of guns and ammo. "We probably get 100 phone calls a day," stated Brent Ball, owner of 417 Guns. "We got 5,000 rounds of 22 (mm) the other day. It was gone literally in two minutes. It was crazy, it was just like a mad house. " Gun owners are buying like there's no tomorrow- because they're not sure what tomorrow holds for their rights to bear arms. "There is so much rumor right now is the problem. What is actually out there and what is coming it goes back and forth daily almost," said Ball.

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Administrators locked down schools late Monday morning after a report that someone had fired shots from a car near the intermediate school and the high school about 11:30. Police were looking for a specific car and officers stopped a car matching that description at a parking lot east of those schools (photo), where they questioned four people in two vehicles and detained two of them. Police at the scene said the four people involved are high school-aged, and know each other. They wouldn't confirm whether the gun was real or a fake gun, like a BB gun or an Airsoft gun. Police said they didn't have a motive for the dispute. A police department spokesman said officers would conduct a search on Monday afternoon to try to gain more evidence in their investigation. They said neither car has damage from a gunshot and the reported shooting was not at a school, although one or both cars did drive through a school parking lot. The school district got the all-clear from police at noon. Superintendent Steve Morgan says students attended classes and lunch but couldn't go outside the schools. He said everything else was normal in the schools. He said the situation is formally called a "Lock and Learn.

REPUBLIC, Mo. -- City police believe a man who fired a shot into a home because of a dispute with a woman is an illegal immigrant who is using someone else's name. That's why Helio Avila is charged by the name of John Doe with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Police also believe Sunday was not the first time that Doe has fired a gun in his neighborhood. According to the probable cause statement, police went to a home at 3423 E. Haile St. on Sunday. Witnesses said Doe argued with a woman in the driveway, then pulled out a gun and fired a shot at a man who was watching the argument from a window in the home. Police found the bullet hole under the window, as well as a spent .380 shell next to the driveway.
