SPRINGFIELD, Mo - Glendale High School's culinary team is competing in the National Pro-Start Competition Sunday at 10am. They qualified by winning state in February. The team left for Baltimore, Maryland Thursday. They're competing against some college teams who have more resources and more experience, but that didn't stop them from winning at state. The students had to come up with the menu themselves. During competition they only have an hour to make a three course meal.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Some Glendale High School art students are using their talents to help orphans in third-world countries. It's the seventh year for "The Memory Project," which provides a portrait to a child who's never really had any possessions to call their own that weren't handed down from other orphans. The Memory Project takes the portraits that are painted by high school students here in America and delivers them to the orphans. The students then get to see a video of the orphan they were paired up with receiving the portrait, as well as a picture of their orphan holding the portrait for the students to keep.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- More students in Springfield Public Schools are learning about the dangers of methamphetamine. "Don't Meth With Us" used to be aimed at fifth graders, and now it's been expanded. Carver Middle School seventh graders were the first seventh-grade class to see the presentation on Tuesday, similar to the one they saw in fifth grade. Now they're a little older and a little wiser, and understand the message even more. "I forgot some of it but, whenever it came back, it all just came back at once, so I knew what they were talking about," said seventh grader Garren Shelley.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Glendale Falcons took to the soccer field on Tuesday night but a hole was in the team's heart. Before the game against the Joplin Eagles, the grieving student body marked a moment of silence for Grayson Lambert, 16. Last Saturday, he perished in a plane crash along with his dad, brother, sister, and a family friend. “A great teammate,” said head coach Jeff Rogers. “[He] worked hard in practice to not only become a better player but to push those around him. " These players aren't about to forget their friend and will pay tribute through the season.

The Springfield school board on Thursday approved the use of private funds to place artificial turf in the football stadiums at Glendale, Hillcrest, and Kickapoo, the only three public schools in the city without the synthetic surface. Parkview's JFK Stadium, which is scheduled to have its field resurfaced, and Central's Harrison Stadium, which it shares with Drury, already have artificial turf. Headed by district athletic director Mark Fisher, some $3.5 million has been raised for the project with the goal to raise about a half-million more.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- On Tuesday Glendale head coach Renee Temple said that the difference in Friday's match up against Ozark would be how they could contain Ozark inside. Unfortunately for Temple and the Lady Flacons, Ozark won the battle inside, and the game 75-64. Behind the play of their two bigs Melanie Williams and Jackie Fugate, Ozark was able to control the outcome of the game. Fugate tied for a game high in points with 19, with a majority coming in the second half. "We knew our post wouldn't have much competition with their posts and we knew it would be vital to get the ball inside," Fugate said.
