ASH GROVE, Mo. -- Firefighters faced bitterly cold temperatures, a limited water supply, slick roads and a frozen pump on a fire engine while battling a house fire between Willard and Ash Grove on Tuesday morning.  It started around 7:00 along U.S. 160.  Flames were shooting out of the garage when the first unit arrived on the scene. It was the home of Larry and Marilyn Smith, who are well known in the area.  Larry Smith taught agriculture classes at Aurora, Ash Grove and Willard high schools.

ASH GROVE, Mo.-- Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a fully engulfed house fire in Ash Grove Saturday morning, near the corner of Daniel and Washington. When crews arrived, there was word that a person may have been trapped inside the home, but firefighters were able to locate the lady elsewhere.  She was not inside when it started. The home is a total loss.  No word yet on what caused it.

ASH GROVE -- Firefighters were battling a 40 acre grass fire Saturday afternoon in Greene County. Crews said it took about an hour and half to get the flames under control near Ash Grove. The blaze on Farm Road 84 was spotted by a neighbor who then called 911.  The woman said she saw the flames in a ditch, but the winds quickly fanned the flames. No one was injured in the fire.  No word on what caused the blaze

ASH GROVE, Mo.-- A mobile home caught fire early Saturday morning in Ash Grove.  It happened in the 100 block of East College. The fire chief tells KY3 that a family of three all made it out safely, after their smoke alarm went off. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Another nearby trailer heated up, but firefighters were able to douse it with water before it caught fire. The chief says four boys, ages 10 to 12, ran door to door in the mobile home park to let everyone know what was going on, and to tell them to get out of there.

ASH GROVE, Mo. -- Ash Grove and Stockton met up Tuesday night in a battle of Mid Lakes Conference rivals, and the host Pirates emerged victorious with a 73-42 rout of the Stockton Tigers.  Guard Jake Keller hit six threes on the night for Ash Grove as he led several Pirates in double figures.  The game was fairly close in the first quarter, as Ash Grove only held a 13-7 advantage after the first eight minutes of the contest.  The Pirates...

AFTON, OK -- Severe storms on Friday are responsible for the death of a man from Ash Grove, Missouri. Jimmy King died when straight-line winds flipped his semi onto a cement barrier wall, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol King was trapped inside on the Will Rogers Turnpike near Afton.      Troopers said King was pinned in the wreckage for almost three hours; he died at the scene from massive injuries.     King was 70-years old.

SPRINGFIELD -- A woman from Ash Grove is facing charges a year after a crash left two people dead. Prosecutors say Tammy Thompson was changing lanes along West Bypass in Springfield last May when she clipped another vehicle sending it into the opposite lanes where it hit a motorcycle head-on.    The collision immediately killed the couple on the bike-- Gary and Denice Zenger of Bois D'Arc.    If convicted of the misdemeanor traffic charge, Thompson could face up to a year in jail.

ASH GROVE, Mo. - An Ozarks community is coming together to support a teacher fighting breast cancer. A "Pink Out" rally will take place today from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Ash Grove High School stadium. Games, face painting and live music are all part of the festivities. Money raised from the event will go to teacher Julie Renshaw who is currently receiving treatment for breast cancer.

ASH GROVE, Mo. -- A house was destroyed Wednesday morning before firefighters could get to it. Firefighters from Ash Grove and Willard were called to the home near Farm Road 53 at Farm Road 76, east of Ash Grove, at 6 a.m.  Upon arrival, crews saw that the home had collapsed on itself and flames were still showing. Fire crews fought the blaze using a number of resources, including tankers.  The people living in the home were not home at the time of the fire, fire officials on scene said.

ASH GROVE, Mo. - One person is dead after an early morning fire broke out in a home in Ash Grove. Ash Grove Fire Protection District Chief Tony Monnig said Saturday afternoon that investigators are still on scene of a home in the 400 block of North Calhoun Avenue near the intersection of College Street. One of the homeowners died as a result of the fire, but their name has not been released. Crews from Ash Grove were joined by firefighters from Walnut Grove, Willard and Bois D'Arc in fighting the fire.

ASH GROVE, Mo -- A graphic designer in the Ozarks is getting a shot to create a St. Louis Cardinals T-Shirt.  C.J. Woolf works at the CrackerJack Shack in Ash Grove as a graphic artist. He is a lifelong Cardinals fan. Last week the organization started a contest. They wanted T Shirt designs for their Social Media Night on June 4th. So Woolf sent in his design, and the next thing he knew he was in the top three. "The other day I thought of it as my two favorite things: graphic design and the St. Louis Cardinals.

ASH GROVE, Mo. -- State Auditor Tom Schweich announced today that his office has started an audit of the Ash Grove School District after a petition effort requesting one. Local citizens circulated a petition and turned in 406 valid signatures, six more than the 400 needed to obtain a petition audit. Schweich's staff met with the Ash Grove School Board on Monday night. Audit work will formally begin next week. The Ash Grove School District covers parts of Greene, Dade and Lawrence counties.

ASH GROVE, Mo. -- Four people are in the hospital Sunday night following a domestic dispute that ended up spanning Dade and Greene Counties. It started in Dade County when authorities were called to a home in Everton around 5 p.m. for a domestic disturbance.   When officers arrived, they found a man with life threatening injures from a stabbing, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.  The man was flown to a Springfield hospital....

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Greene County prosecutors say an Ash Grove man brutalized his girlfriend in an attack that lasted for hours and included a knife, a gun and a can of apple pie filling.   Darrell Beetler is charged with four counts of felony domestic assault.  His girlfriend told police Beetler got mad and punched her, then started hitting her with a can of pie filling.  Police say Beetler also poked his girlfriend with a knife and had his teenage son load a rifle and bring it to him. The woman says last month's attack lasted at least four hours.

ASH GROVE, Mo. - These days, Cathy Owen is busy making pizzas, and the postal service is one of the furthest things from her mind. "The internet has become more a vital piece for us to use. So, we use that instead of the post office," stated Owen, owner of Whistlestop Pizza. Because she uses email and the internet, Owen isn't too disappointed to hear the mailman soon may no longer stop at her place, or any place- on Saturdays. "To be real honest, it's not really going to affect me," she admitted.

NEAR ASH GROVE, Mo. - Ranchers are asked to be on their highest alert after yet another suspicious incident involving cattle was reported near Ash Grove. The Greene County Sheriff's Office said they received a report of a cut fence and unauthorized cattle gate replaced in the 14000 block of West Farm Road 136 on Wednesday. The sheriff's office is asking cattle ranchers to frequently check their cattle, take pictures of their herds, maintain a list of tag numbers and other identifying data -- and report any missing animals.

ASH GROVE, Mo.-- Thinking ahead, in case the unthinkable happens. Ash Grove Police and staff at the High School led students through an inside intruder drill Thursday morning. Students and teachers barricaded themselves into the room, as police reacted as if there were an active shooter inside the building. School staff say students and teachers have been asking a lot of questions about safety since the Connecticut school shooting. The high school principal says drills like this one help set their minds at ease, plus they learn from previous incidents.
