CHICAGO, Ill. --  Albert Pujols cheered in Wrigley Field?  Say it ain't so. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports the Chicago Cubs have contacted Pujols' agent, expressing interest in the free agent. New Cubs president Theo Epstein has preached patience early-on in an attempt to bring the organization its first World Series Championship since 1908.  That has changed. The new collective bargaining agreement goes against rebuilding through the minor leagues, making it harder to rebuild a team through the draft and international player signings.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols will miss at least the next month of the season after tests on Monday revealed a fractured left forearm.  Team doctors say he has a non-displaced break near his left wrist.  His arm is in a splint. Pujols injured it on a play at first base in the sixth inning of the Cardinals' against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.  His gloved hand collided with Royals batter-runner Wilson Betemit as Pujols tried to catch an errant throw from the second baseman after a ground ball up the middle.  Pujols left the game immediately after gripping his arm in pain and falling to the ground.

WEST PLAINS, Mo -- A local boy gets a surprise visit with his favorite slugger. Nick Long met Albert Pujols over Memorial Day weekend at Busch Stadium. The community near the West Plains area helped orchestrate the whole day. "A baseball bat, a baseball hat, two signed balls for me and my sister," said Nick Long. When it comes to St. Louis Cardinals memorabilia Nick has quite the loot. Nick didn't get it off Ebay or craigslist--he got it directly from the source. "Well they said we were going to meet Pujols," Nick explained, "but they said we don't know if we are going to. They got me good.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Life after Albert Pujols. The St. Cardinals and slugger Carlos Beltran have agreed to a two year deal, reportedly worth $26 million.  He should help ease the void left by Albert Pujols' departure to the Los Angeles Angels. The 34-year-old Beltran hit .300 with 22 home runs, 84 RBIs and a .385 on-base percentage for the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants this year.  He won the American League's Rookie of the Year with the Kansas City Royals in 1999.

Pujols helped the Cardinals win the World Series in October, and a statue in his honor was unveiled a short time later outside the restaurant. But Pujols left St. Louis as a free agent and signed a 10-year contract to play for the Angels in California.

Albert Pujols went 5-for-6 at the plate with five RBI, four runs and three homeruns in Game 3 of the World Series.  The performance helps the Cardinals take a 2-1 lead in the series thanks to a 16-7 victory. Pujols smashed a 3-run homerun in the 6th inning of 431-feet to left field to give the Cardinals an 11-6 lead.  He'd add a 2-run, 424-foot homer in the 7th and a solo blast in the 9th that traveled just shy of 400-feet.  Pujols ties Reggie Jackson and Babe Ruth as the only players in baseball history to have three homeruns in one World Series game.

Pending a physical, the sweet-swing of Albert Pujols is leaving the Gateway to the West and heading west. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim signed El Hombre to a 10-year, $254-million contract Thursday morning.  A key to the contract, a no trade clause.  Pujols' contract will be the second highest contract in MLB ever; second only to Alex Rodriguez's current deal with the Yankees for $275-million. Cardinal fans were pretty upbeat about the news Thursday.  Those who called into The Sports Reporters talk show on 98.7 The Jock were understanding.  "I wish him well, but that's just too much money," one caller said.

ST. LOUIS -- Once again, the Cardinals' resilience was tested on Sunday. Once again, they answered the test with flying colors. One half-inning after losing a late lead, and 3 1/2 innings after losing their superstar first baseman to an injury, the Cardinals pulled out a hard-earned 5-4 win over the Royals at Busch Stadium. Skip Schumaker's walk-off home run against lefty Tim Collins was the final blow in a truly memorable game. "I'm not sure there's a better feeling than hitting a home run, a walk-off, it doesn't happen too often," Schumaker said.
