SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- It was a year ago that two people were killed in a six-vehicle crash on one of Springfield's busiest streets. Now, a woman from Ava is charged with causing the accident. Prosecutors say Tammy Thompson was changing lanes along West Bypass on May 19, 2012 when she clipped another vehicle, sending it into the opposite lanes where it hit a motorcycle head-on. It immediately killed the couple on the bike - Gary and Denice Zenger of Bois D'Arc. If convicted of the misdemeanor traffic charge, Thompson could face up to a year in jail.

BRANSON, Mo. - Many signs of progress are evident, including active construction sites up and down the Missouri 76 strip. Still, though, stark reminders remain of the tornado that hit on Leap Day 2012. Eight tornadoes roared across the Ozarks in the early morning hours of Feb. 29, killing two people and injuring 53. The most extensive damage happened in Taney and Stone Counties when an EF-2 tornado cut a path of damage from Kimberling City, through the heart of Branson, to eastern Taney County near Protem.

EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. -- A big power project threatens to mow down a 50-mile path through the woods of northern Arkansas. It's part of a plan to bring more electricity to growing towns in that area. Some residents are concerned over the price of progress and whether the line is needed. “All of us who live here live here because it's beautiful,” said Pat Costner, who lives near Eureka Springs. Costner spends her retirement tending to her little piece of heaven in the hills.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- We should all be flattered. According to multiple contentions made Monday on a cable television show, the Ozarks is about to become the center of what remains of human civilization. "Conspiracy Theory," hosted by Jesse Ventura, followed a "trail" of "evidence" to multiple locations across the Ozarks, claiming to support the notion that a powerful group is very close to bringing about the end of life as we know it; a group that will subsequently make the Ozarks its home.

Consumer Reports evaluated dozens of interior paints that cost anywhere from $8 per gallon to more than $60. One important test checks to see how well paints cover in one coat. They find big differences. Another important test is how well paints resist stains. Testers apply a greasy mixture and let it sit overnight. Then a machine scrubs the paint to see how well the grease comes off. Some come clean in just a few passes. But the cheapest paint in the tests, Color Place from Walmart, did not clean nearly as well as some of the best paints.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The practice of midwifery became legal in Missouri in 2007, but it requires someone with formal training to be a Certified Professional Midwife. One C.P.M. is opening up a birth clinic here. Mary Ueland opened the center near Glenstone Avenue at Sunshine Street. It's a five-minute drive to a hospital if there are complications. That's why Ueland picked the location. The clinic does not have an official name yet. Ueland says the demand is great for this practice and she's already turning people away. The asking price is about $3,000. That covers prenatal care.
