FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. - Friends and family of a Marine who died after he fell into a sinkhole while hunting earlier this week will gather Saturday to celebrate his life.

Staff Sgt. Curtis Powelson was looking for a deer that he shot with an arrow near his home on Monday evening.  He fell in a 65-foot sinkhole that he didn't know had recently opened in a wooded area.

After he didn't return home, his wife called for help, and Powelson's body was found at the bottom of the sinkhole after a long grid search in the middle of the night.

An obituary for Powelson states that a funeral will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Main Post Chapel at Fort Leonard Wood. Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert will direct the services.
