SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A new study finds more than 130 million people in the United States do not have dental insurance.  Some call that a national crisis.  That’s why three dentists plan to help those in need in Springfield this weekend.

The number of uninsured people continues to grow in the Ozarks.

“It still surprises me today you see someone in their 20s and 30s come in and they have never seen a dentist -- in the United States.  They grew up in the United States and have never seen a dentist,” said Dr. Michael Littell.

“The average person making $8 an hour needing care -- it's just tough to make ends meet nowadays,” said Dr. Kevin Pierce.

Any adult can get free dental care at Distinctive Dental Solutions on Saturday.  Adults can get a cleaning, filling or tooth extraction at no charge.

Folks will have to go first and register at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2852 S. Dayton Ave.  Then they'll be transported to the dental clinic.  Organizers say people should arrive early because a big crowd is expected.  The clinic starts at 8 and ends at 2.

“I hope to be able to touch someone's life and take away the pain out of someone's life and make it a little easier, just provide a service,” said Littell.

“You have links to heart disease and several other things from lack of dental health,” said Pierce.

The dentists know they’ll be busy.

“I really enjoy it. It's a good day and makes you feel like you have helped a lot of people,” said Pierce.
