NIXA, Mo. -- Christian County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a fatal shooting north of Nixa.   Sheriff Joey Kyle says one roommate shot another several times after a dispute over personal property on Wednesday.  James Skindelien, 65, is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

The victim, identified on Thursday as Sidney Shuman, 60, died where he was shot, at the end of the driveway of the home that the two men shared with two other men.

Kyle said deputies arrested Skindelien after they arrived at the scene.  Kyle believes Shuman was trying to flee when he was shot.  Skindelien is the one who made the 911 call after the shooting.

The shooting was shortly before noon Wednesday.  The victim’s body was covered by a tarp and remained in the driveway, surrounded by crime scene tape, until shortly after 3 p.m.

Investigators scoured the area around Shuman's body for evidence.  They waited several hours for a search warrant before going into the home.

A person who lives in the neighborhood said deputies went door to door to see if anyone heard or saw anything that might help the investigation.  One neighbor told a news videographer at the scene that his wife heard a gunshot.

An acquaintance of the four men said the man who owns the house rents space to three others.  Eileen Rude said the home owner was not involved in the shooting.  She said Skindelien has pulled his weapon several times and is "delirious."

Rude said Shuman recently moved here from California and has no family in the area.

A judge set Skindelien's bond at $250,000.
