SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A widespread outage affected AT&T wireless customers across the Ozarks for nearly two hours on Thursday.  AT&T representatives said the outage in parts of Missouri and Kansas affected cellular telephones.

Representatives said around 11:40 a.m. that service was just restored.  People were encouraged to power cycle their phones -- turn them off, wait a few seconds, then turn them back on again -- to reconnect to service.

The outage appeared to affect inbound and outbound calls and text messaging. Mobile data and iMessage on iOS devices were unaffected.

AT&T spokeswoman Katie Nagus issued the following statement:

“Earlier today, some customers in Kansas and Western Missouri may have experienced issues with 3G wireless services. AT&T technicians quickly worked to resolve the issue, and service is currently running normally. We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers.”
