SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Missouri Health Facilities Review Committee approved construction of a new rehabilitation hospital on Evans Road at U.S. 65. It will be just north of Mercy Orthopedic Hospital Springfield. The approval came after a hearing on Monday morning.
Mercy offers rehabilitation services at its main hospital in Springfield. As a Level I trauma center for Arkansas and Missouri, as well as the region’s only burn unit, Mercy says the need for rehabilitation has outgrown the 35 beds available in the current space.
“We currently operate with a waiting list because we are unable to safely and appropriately meet the needs of more patients and their families,” said Dr. Hollis Bell, medical director for rehabilitation at Mercy Hospital Springfield. “Additionally, we are the only inpatient rehabilitation facility in the Ozarks that provides care for patients as young as 13. Many patients in this age category have to go three hours away for their care.”
