FEW AFTERNOON SHOWERS SOUTHEAST
After a foggy start to the day the sun was shining across much of the Ozarks at midday. There were, however, a few showers and storms that were trying to develop southeast of Springfield near a surface front. That is where a chance of rain will continue this afternoon. Highs today will reach the mid and upper 80s. Skies will clear by tonight as lows cool into the mid 60s.
DRY MIDWEEK BUT WATCHING ISAAC
Midweek will be dry and warm in response to pressure increases aloft. Beneficial rain fell over the weekend with many locations reporting between 0.50" and 1.00" of rainfall. There were even some isolated spots that collected over 2.00" for a Saturday-Sunday total. A tropical system in the Gulf could bring more rain to the area late in the week.
Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to strengthen into a hurricane late today and make landfall near New Orleans tomorrow. The track of the system will need to be monitored closely, but as of right now it is expected to move over Arkansas and Missouri on Friday. Showers and storms are looking more likely during that time frame.
