North Point Church cuts 21 positions, will close satellite campuses

The church cited 'outstanding bills and our lender's expectations'' in an email to attendees

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -  Financial problems are forcing one of the area's largest churches to close two satellite campuses and cut 21 positions.

In an email to attendees Friday, obtained by KY3 News, North Point Church said it will temporarily close locations in Nixa and on East Sunshine in Springfield, effective August 25th. The email was authored by Nixa campus pastor Tim Perkins and said, "Our board along with our entire staff all love and believe in the multi-site strategy.  We still hold both East Sunshine and Nixa leases and fully intend on reopening as funds stabilize."

A prior email, written on August 10 by members of the board of trustees and also obtained by KY3 News, detailed the church's financial problems and urged attendees to not just consume, but also to contribute to the church.  It stated the church will end the year with a $600,000 shortfall if giving remains the same.

All North Point congregations will be back at the original Norton Road location off of Interstate 44 starting August 25.  The email said the financial problems were not the direct result of the resignation of lead pastor Tommy Sparger, who resigned earlier this summer, after confessing to marital infidelity.
