SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - As you might imagine, lawn care companies are seeing less business this summer.
They are still cutting grass for some customers....but the trimmings have become far and few between.
417 Lawns told KY3 usually this time of year, grass needs mowed every other week. But this time around, it has been more than a month since some lawns have needed to be cut.
Unfortuantely, at this stage, irrigation and water sprinklers are having a hard time keeping up because those artificial watering systems cannot fully replace rain itself.
The bright spot for these lawn maintenance businesses may come this fall -- when a lot of lawns need to be reseeded.
Experts say there could be some hope in all of this for your own lawn at home. If your turf is yellow and crunchy,it's likely not dead...it's probably just dormant.
"There is no sense in trying to water a little bit. If it has already gone dormant, leave it dormant until temperatures cool off. if you are watering you want to soak it deep to where the roots can utilize it," said Sean Jones of 417 Lawn.

"We get kind of disappointed because we want people to have nice healthy lawns and there is nothing we can do," Greg McComas of Ryan Tree and Lawn said. "We can water as much as we can but we cannot replace rain."
The companies we talked to said one of the worst things you can do is to continue mowing your grass when it doesn't really need it.
Of course, also don't forget to water your shrubs and trees -- a lot of those plants are starting to lose their leaves.
