LAMPE, Mo. -- A 14-year-old boy was released from a hospital in Springfield hours after he was injured jumping from a bluff into Table Rock Lake.

Kanakuk Kamps marketing director Jay Holden says the boy, whose name has not been released, was participating in a group activity around noon Wednesday at the camp at Baxter Point on Table Rock Lake.  He jumped into the water and complained of pain in his lower back.

A pontoon boat took the boy to a dock, where medical staff checked him out and asked for airlift from the scene.

Witnesses to the incident say they aren't sure if the boy struck anything on the way down.  The bluff is reportedly 30 feet above the lake.

Firefighters say the boy reported numbness from the waist down.  It turned out the boy had a sprained ankle and was discharged from the hospital.
