24-hour forecast
Good evening! Many of us saw a bit of a break in the heat today with highs over the northeast Ozarks in the lower 90s. It was still just over 100 for the south and west, much as expected. The atmosphere has dried out considerably from yesterday and this dry air will be with us through the weekend. Highs Saturday will be similar to today for many spots, but slightly cooler for the south and west. Highs will mainly be in the upper 90s, though 100 is still possible in the west. Upper high pressure will then expand over the region once again by Sunday into about Tuesday. That 3-day stretch will bring back the extreme heat, with low 100s expected area-wide. In fact a few places will top 105 particularly Monday and Tuesday. Long range models then try to flatten the upper ridge and suppress it southward by the end of next week. As this occurs the chance of rain should come back, but it's also the first model to show such a change. Thus...I lowered temps slightly in the long-range forecast, but suggest we be cautiously optimistic.
