Heat advisory now includes more of the Ozarks through Sunday

Heat index values will range from 100 to 107 degrees.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for most of the Ozarks until 7 p.m. Sunday. 

It covers the counties of Bourbon, Crawford, Cherokee, Benton, Morgan, Vernon, St. Clair, Hickory, Camden, Barton, Cedar, Polk, Dallas, Jasper, Dade, Greene, Newton, Lawrence, Christian, McDonald, Barry and Stone Counties.

This heat advisory includes the cities of Springfield, Nixa, Ozark, Branson, Pittsburg, Baxter Springs, Columbus, Warsaw, Cole Camp, Versailles, Nevada, Appleton City, Osceola, Hermitage, Lamar, El Dorado Springs, Stockton, Joplin and Carthage.

* Temperatures: Air temperatures will range from 98 to 103 degrees each afternoon.  Heat index values will range from 100 to 107 degrees.

* Impacts: Those taking part in outdoor activities will become susceptible to heat related illnesses if proper precautions are not taken.

*Precautionary/Preparedness actions: Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.  When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.  Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.  Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

*To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.  Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.  Heat stroke is an emergency: call 9-1-1.
