MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers pounced on Adam Wainwright to mount a 4-0 lead in the 1st inning and held off late Cardinal rallies for a 4-3 victory Wednesday.
The Cardinals had the tying run at third, and the bases loaded in the 9th, but new Brewer closer Francisco Rodriguez got Lance Berkman to pop out to end the game.
Former Springfield Cardinal starter, Trevor Rosenthal, pitched a scoreless 8th inning for the Redbirds. Rosenthal gave up a hit and had two strike outs in his appearance which saw him throw a 100 mph pitch to strike out Corey Hart.
Rosenthal became the 2,000 player to wear the Cardinal uniform in a professional game; the most in major league history.
