Construction crew ruptures gas line near Benton Ave. at Chestnut Expy. in Springfield

No injuries resulted

City Utilities shut down gas lines in the area.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Firefighters and City Utilities of Springfield crews responded to a gas line rupture in an area just north of Chestnut Expressway, near Ozarks Technical Community College and Drury University.

CU crews shut off gas lines after construction crews digging in the area struck a 1.5-inch line at roughly 8:15 a.m., rupturing the line.

Springfield firefighters shut down Benton Avenue for a short time for safety due to the amount of natural gas being emitted.
