LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- A push to allow casino gambling in seven Arkansas counties failed. The Secretary of State's Office says the petition drive for a statewide vote in November fell short. None of the casino locations announced by supporters included counties along the Missouri border.
Arkansas Hotels and Entertainment needed enough voters signatures equal to at least 5 percent of the votes cast in the governor's race in 2010 in 15 different counties to qualify as a proposed constitutional amendment. It would have allowed the company to operate one casino in each of the counties that Arkansas Hotels and Entertainment had targeted.
