Cards win rubber game against Midland

July 04, 2012|Chad Plein, KY3 News

SPRINGFIELD -- Seth Maness commanded Wednesday's game pitching seven strong innings, leading the Cardinals to a 5-0 win over Midland.

Maness improved to 4-1 on the season thanks to seven shutout innings.  After allowing a lead-off hit to start the game, Manness would retire the next 17-hitters.

The Cardinals broke open a scoreless game in the 7th.  Greg Garcia would drive in 2-runs with a double to right to add to a 1-0 Card lead.  Kolten Wong and Jermaine Curtis would then get back-to-back RBI hits to give the Cards a 5-0 advantage.

The win was a little payback for the Cards after the RockHounds broke-up Springfield's seven-game win streak Tuesday; the longest streak since the 2007 season.
