July 02, 2012|Chad Plein, KY3 News

SPRINGFIELD -- What started as a defensive battle between the Springfield Cardinals and Midland RockHounds turned into a game with 12-runs on 20-hits.

The X-Factor in the game was Xavier Scruggs.  The Cardinals first baseman made an amazing diving play to his right in the 4th inning to keep the game tied 1-1.

Later in the 6th, Scruggs crushed a ball for a 400-plus foot homerun to dead centerfield.  The 3-run shot gave the Cards the lead and helped them hold on for the 7-5 win.

Kolten Wong was a perfect 3-3 on the night with a run and an RBI was the Cardinals have their longest winning streak since the 2007 season.
