COLUMBIA, Mo. - Kim English's NBA career begins in Detroit.

The Pistons drafted the University of Missouri forward with the 44th selection in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft Thursday.

"MO Town!!," tweeted English shortly after the draft.  "Blessed to be a Detroit Piston.  Ready to get to work."

The Baltimore, Maryland native averaged 14.5 points per game in his senior campaign, helping lead Mizzou to the Big 12 Conference Tournament championship.  English shot better than 38-percent from three-point-range last season too.  He was a third-team all-Big 12 selection.

Detroit failed to make the playoffs during the lockout-shortened 2011-2012 season.  The Pistons finished 25-41.  English is known for his relentless work in the gym.

He is the first Mizzou player drafted since the Memphis Grizzlies selected DeMarre Carroll in the 2009 draft.  Fellow senior Marcus Denmon was selected by the San Antonio Spurs late in the second-round,
