Springfield Police break up homeless camp

June 24, 2012|by Jay Scherder, KY3 News | jscherder@ky3.com

SPRINGFIELD, Mo -- Homeless advocates are hard at work finding new homes for those homeless recently displaced by Springfield police.  Cops broke up a homeless camp this past week in northern Springfield and arrested 18 people, one day after the residents were told they had 24 hours to clear out.

Springfield's police chief says he received permission from the owner of the land to enforce the city's trespassing ordinance after nearby property owners complained of a recent spike in crimes.
