The Heat Returns

Temperatures rebounded nicely today with full sunshine and dry air. Humidity levels dropped considerably which made it much more comfortable. Lows tonight will settle into the low to mid 60s area wide.

Big Ridge: Big Heat

A large ridge will take shape over the nations mid-section this weekend. High temperatures will really soar too with highs forecast to reach the upper 90s on Sunday. Keep in mind this will be far cooler than Kansas where models are pushing 110 degrees near Salina Kansas. The will squash any chance for rain for much of the next seven days, or that is how it looks right now. The one saving grace we have is that a cooler air mass is forecast to affect our eastern counties and will bring readings back down to Earth or at least average.

One Thing to Watch

Models try to spin up a tropical system early next week. Right now there is not much consensus on where or how strong. We will have to keep an eye on this feature as it may have a significant impact on our weather either good or bad. Good results would be the area would get beneficial rain. A bad result would be it can help to extend the dry weather.

Drought

83% of the state of Arkansas is now considered to be in SEVERE DROUGHT. Adjacent sections of southern Missouri are also in severe drought. Much of the rest of our viewing area is in moderate drought. There is just a small area immediately northwest of Stockton Lake which has had the proper amount of rain. The rest of Ozarks are hurting for moisture.
