SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- The Greene County Sheriff has honored a 12-year-old boy from Strafford with the first "Junior Deputy Award." Sheriff Jim Arnott presented the award to Montana Sade in a ceremony last month, in recognition of the student's making a report on drug distribution among minors in the Strafford area. The sheriff's office says Montana told a school resource officer he had received a green leafy substance from someone and was told it was marijuana.
"Montana has demonstrated character of the highest caliber by making a good choice to protect his peers," said Sheriff Arnott. "Montana faced some personal risks in reporting the incident but made the right choice."
Montana is a graduate of the DARE classes at his school which, in part, teach students how to cope with peer pressure and the appropriate response to drug-involved situations.
