SPRINGFIELD --  The Girl Scouts are celebrating their centennial birthday.

In honor of the milestone, a traveling exhibit covering the last 100-years opened Sunday at the Springfield-Greene County History Museum.

The display is set up by decade and shows the changing uniforms and badges.

Officials with the local chapter hope this exhibit gives folks a better understanding of the scouts.

"I hope (visitors) see there's more than just cookies and camping and crafts," Joan Gibson with the Girl Scouts of Missouri Heartland said, "there are a lot of varied opportunities girls have a chance to take part in."

The exhibit is open through July 6 when it will go to the Barry County Museum until the middle of August.
