Texas man accused of killing, burning Ozarks man

Pineville, MO -The McDonald County Sheriff’s Office received information during the late evening of Wednesday, May 23rdregarding a possible homicide that happened approximately a week prior outside of Goodman, Missouri.

   During the course of this investigation, it was learned that either late Thursday or early Friday morning of May 17th or 18th, a shooting occurred at a residence located off of Highway B, approximately 5 miles west of Goodman in rural McDonald County.  Investigators received information that led them to the location of the handgun used in the shooting as well as the container used to conceal the body.

   The body was located in a ravine on a farm in rural Newton County between Neosho and Joplin.

   The suspect has been identified as 26 year old Caleb Sadler from Del Rio Texas.  He was taken into custody in Del Rio by local Texas Authorities and US Marshals.  He has been charged in McDonald County Court with First Degree Murder and is currently being held on $100,000 cash only bond.

   The victim, 31 year old Michael Smith of Goodman, was shot with a handgun at least once after an altercation or disagreement with Sadler.  Sadler attempted to dispose of the body by burning and placing it in a container and then disposing of the body on the farm in Newton County.

   We should learn more tomorrow regarding the status of Sadler and whether he waives extradition to come back to Missouri.

   This investigation was conducted cooperatively with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
