SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Police found the parents of a boy who was wandering the streets of Springfield early Wednesday.   Police say the boy is 4 years old and was about a half mile from home.

Juan Siordia of Springfield, who was driving on Primrose Street near Glenstone Avenue, saw the boy around 2:30 a.m. and stayed with him until officers arrived.

Police initially turned the boy over to the state Children's Division since they couldn't find the parents.  The boy was wearing only a pair of shorts.  Police say the boy is not hurt and was in good spirits.

Police say the boy's mother, Jennifer Monteer, who lives in an apartment, woke up around 4:30 a.m. and saw a door was open and the boy was missing.  She called police, who reunited the parents with the boy.

Before the call, police walked house to house to see if they could spot a door or window that might be open where the child could have slipped through.

Officers gave the boy a blanket, some juice and a few stuffed animals to comfort him until they found his parents.  A Springfield Police Department spokesman does not expect officers will recommend a criminal charge.
