MARSHFIELD, Mo. -- A man wanted for a murder near Rogersville has been captured in the Phoenix, Ariz., area. Investigators believe Dewayne Layton shot and killed Billy Harris in an argument over a truck.
Investigators think Harris, 28, was murdered in mid-January but his body wasn't found until late February in a wooded area north of Rogersville. Layton's brother, Kevin, and another man, Alfred Clevenger, are charged as accomplices. Webster County Sheriff Roye Cole says both helped Layton clean up the crime scene -- their home south of Rogersville -- and bury the murder weapon
A woman who says she witnessed the murder helped investigators break the case. Cole says Clevenger and Kevin Layton said Dewayne Layton left Missouri a couple of weeks after the murder, possibly headed to California.
Layton is jailed in lieu of a $500,000 bond, and faces extradition from Arizona, unless he waives that right and agrees to be returned to Marshfield.
