GREENFIELD, Mo. -- A man and his daughter from Springfield are charged in Dade County for what investigators say was a massive drug and theft ring that has victims in several counties.  George Dumm, 57, and Jessica Dumm, 32, were each charged last week with one count of receiving stolen property worth more than $25,000.

Investigators served a search warrant on a rural property northeast of Greenfield on April 23, and spent the days since then sorting through suspected stolen goods worth tens of thousands of dollars.   The recovered property at 636 East Dade 68 Road included an ATV, tractor, propane tanks, tires, lumber, ladders, power tools, and concrete tools.  When investigators reported to a judge what they found during the raid, the list covered 13 pages.

Dade County Sheriff Steve Stapp says George Dumm bought the property but deeded it to his daughter.  Stapp says the county is going through the courts to seize the real estate, since they believe it was used in the commission of a crime.

Investigators are trying to track down the owners of the stolen goods.  They believe they were taken from homes, businesses and storage units over the past two years.  They think the thieves pawned stolen goods to buy methamphetamine and other illegal drugs.

Stapp says he also thinks the pawned goods may have provided funds for a massive building being constructed on the property on East Dade 68.   It has more than a dozen bedrooms with a floor plan similar to a hotel.  Stapp doesn’t know what George Dumm planned to do with the building.

Staff says Jessica Dumm was arrested early last week, and then George Dumm surrendered last Friday.  Both are in the Dade County jail.  Jessica Dumm’s bond is set at $10,000, after being reduced from $200,000, and George Dumm’s bond is set at $250,000.

If they’re convicted, they each could receive prison sentences of five to 15 years for receiving stolen property.  The prosecuting attorney says George Dumm pleaded guilty in 2004 in Greene County for possession of a controlled substance, and pleaded guilty in 2009 in Henry County for the same crime.   That would mean his prison sentence could be as long as life (30 years) because he would be classified as a persistent offender under Missouri law.

Shortly after the raid on the Dumms’ property, Charles Paquin, who lived there or served as its caretaker, was arrested on a drug charge.
