Status:                        Full-time (40+ hours per week)

Location:                            KY3, Inc. 

 

Purpose:        KSPR, the up-and-coming ABC affiliate in Springfield, Missouri, is looking for an energetic, hard-working, creative, multi-talented sports anchor for its 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. newscasts during the week. You will join Ozarks Sports Zone, the biggest sports department in the Ozarks.  This ten person sports department works together to produce content online, for social media, and for three Springfield television stations, including KSPR.

The sports anchor will be responsible for leading KSPR’s coverage of, among other things, all local high school sports, coverage of: Missouri State, Drury, Evangel, Mizzou, Springfield Cardinals, KC Royals, and St. Louis Cardinals.  The candidate will also be responsible for helping produce and “front” a weekly thirty minute high school sports show.  Sports anchor must be able to shoot his/her own video at sporting events, create personalized sports packages, and go live for in-depth sports coverage.  The successful candidate must be able to do in-depth articles, updates, scores and video for our web site, Facebook, and be willing to Tweet as well.  The sports anchor will work closely with the Sports Director on a clear goal of local sports coverage.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • College degree in journalism or related field required

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of sports coverage required.
  • 1-2 years of main sports anchor or sports director experience preferred
  • Excellent television photography skills required.
  • Ability to operate digital cameras (P2) and editing (Grass Valley) preferred.
  • Computer knowledge including ENPS newsroom software, Microsoft applications and Internet use preferred
  • Strong initiative and attention to detail is required.
  • Experience in a newsroom leadership positions (sports director) is preferred

  • Ability to keep up with national and local sports and news is required
  • Ability to enterprise local sports feature stories is required

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees daily sports assignments for hyper-local sportscasts
  • Reports and edits sports stories of interest to the KSPR and KSPR.com viewers 
  • Organizes and anchors special Friday night high school sports show
  • Coordinates with News Director and Sports Director for special sports coverage.   
  • Generates source contacts consistent with all aspects of sports
  • Plans, produces, reports, shoots, edits and writes stories and sports segments
  • Possesses the  ability to develop creative, hyper-local highly personalized sports stories
  • Must possess excellent communication and organizational abilities, including working with the News Director, Sports Director and producers to ensure story accuracy and to determine the best presentation of reports
  • Responsible for overseeing & creating a unique approach to all digital elements for the sport department including: KSPR Facebook page, Twitter, KSPR.com sports page and the Ozarks Sports Zone page.
  •  Responds to phone calls and emails received concerning sports coverage.
  • Must be capable of working quickly and effectively under deadline
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and work well with co-workers
