SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- The Springfield Cardinals Manager joins the list of speakers at the Easter Sunrise Service on Sunday.
For the seventh year in a row, Hammons Field in downtown Springfield will be transformed into a unique place of worship for all denominations on Easter Sunday. On Sunday, April 8, the gates of Hammons Field will open at 6:00 a.m. with the Greater Springfield Sunrise Celebration beginning at 6:30 a.m.
This year’s Sunrise Celebration will feature a message from Major Norman Grainger of the Springfield, Missouri, Corps of the Salvation Army. Other community leaders will be sharing scripture readings and testimonies during this early morning service, including new Springfield Cardinals Manager, Mike Shildt; Executive Director of Council of Churches, Mark Struckhoff; and Missouri State University Campus Christian House Director, David Embree. The Springfield Boys Choir, led by Mark Lawley of Drury University, will be performing during the service. As part of the Sunrise Celebration tradition, a large group of local trumpeters calling themselves the Triumphant Trumpeters will open the service with a moving performance from the upper level of Hammons Field.
The Springfield Area Interdenominational Sunrise Celebration Committee is made up of volunteers from multiple area churches and the staff at Hammons Field. The Greater Springfield Easter Sunrise Celebration is open to anyone with the desire to celebrate Easter in a beautiful outdoor setting at sunrise.
In case of rain, the service will be held indoors at the Springfield Cardinals training facility at Hammons Field.
