NIXA, Mo. -- A dramatization Friday of what it's like to live under economic hardships for students at Nixa High School. Through a role playing exercise, students were confronted with situations like dropping out of school, having past legal histories and having low paying jobs.
The "Reality Enrichment and Life Lessons" exercise is put on by OACAC. It is intended to give students a glimpse into the real-life consequences of negative choices they could make as adolescents. After the student goes through the negative scenario, students then follow the positive choices that come with graduation from high school, higher education, and productive employment.Organizers hope by presenting a simulated scenario to high school students, they will then be able to know the importance of staying in school, finding productive employment and not face real-life situations of poverty.
One Nixa High School student called the experience "a real eye opener."
OACAC's website contains more information about the Reality Enrichment and Life Lessons.
