SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Three people were injured in a rollover wreck on U.S. 65 north of Springfield, just north of the Valley Water Mill Road interchange, about 5:55 a.m. Friday.  The wreck, which shut down U.S. 65 for roughly an hour, appeared to have been caused by icy conditions.

The driver is Melvin Marshall, 26, of Springfield.   The initial Highway Patrol report on the accident says he has moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital.  Ian Marshall, 7, and Elaina Marshall, 2, have minor injuries and were also treated at a hospital.

The 2010 Chevrolet Impala went off the left side of the highway, rolled over and came to rest near a bridge crossing Dry Sac Creek.  Firefighters used extrication equipment commonly known as Jaws of Life to rescue the father and one child from the car.

A semi truck also jack-knifed in the area. The driver of that semi was unhurt.  That accident was separate from the rollover crash.

Emergency crews, which include responders from the Missouri Highway Patrol, Springfield Fire Department and Strafford Fire Department, shut down U.S. Highway 65 in the area as a precaution for roughly an hour, diverting traffic onto Valley Water Mill Road.

Crews spread sand on the bridge surface and reopened U.S. 65.
