Dancing Branson Stars Raise $33,000.00 for Community Organizations

March 09, 2012|Press Release

Branson, Missouri – “Dancing with the Stars of Branson” has returned again this year in order to support eight different community organizations in and around Branson. DWSB is a “much anticipated event, full of surprises, that provides much needed funds for many local community organizations. The show, itself, was very well received by the enthusiastic crowd who loosened their purse strings at intermission to also provide assistance for the victims of the recent tornado that swept through Branson, as it moved across the United States last week.

Last Wednesday night the community turned out to support this 3rd annual community fund raiser which was held at The White House Theatre. The White House is home to the “Legend of Kungfu” and “Paul Harris and the Cleverly’s” shows. But Wednesday, eight couples danced a variety of styles, presented in the style of a popular TV show. Branson’s “Stars” are regular folks from our community, who are not professional dancers, stepping out of their comfort zones for charity. Each one was paired with a Pro Branson dancer to create and learn a dance they performed after just 4 weeks. During those weeks, the couples rehearse and fund raise for their favorite charity. Winners were selected, via intermission voting for a favorite couple, at $1 per vote. Producer Bob Nichols said, “Remember, this is not a dance contest, it is a fundraiser. The couple that raises the most money for their charity wins the Mirror Ball Trophy.”

Competition for that prize, and title, was intense. Cy Bortner from Silver Dollar City; Justin Clark from Legends in Concert; Renee Johnson from The White House Theatre; Jeff Long from Creative Printing; Brenda Meadows from the DBMA; Chuck O’day from the Hollywood Wax Museum and the Cook Twins from Branson High School, battled it out in front of an audience of over 500 in attendance. Prior to the 7 PM show, the costumed contestants mixed it up with over 100 VIPs at the Party with The Stars and Pros. This exclusive pre-event is held each year beginning at 5:30 PM. Branson Pros attending the event were Elisha Conner, Larry Foster, Jody Kosterlitz, Cory PIchoff, Stephanie Richardson, and Lymartin Chattman.

All eight couples danced in the first half of the show, with the exclusion of two couples who were out of the line-up due to scheduling conflicts. DWSB was scheduled to hit the boards at Dick Clarks American Bandstand Theater on Feb 29. But the Leap Day Tornado had other plans for the nearly 1000 seat venue that day. In an attempt to fund so many important community organizations, the producers planned to re- mount this funder, only one week later, at another facility. The management of The White House Theatre offered their venue to house the production. Said Nichols, “The staff of the White House mounted an impressive team effort to open this theatre, which had been virtually closed for the winter.” The popular Branson space was not scheduled to open until May 26. Nichols credits, not only the incredible crew at the theatre but also, “… the best technical crew I could have hoped for in such and impossible situation”. Dave Harris and Justin Chandler from Mansion Entertainment, Joe Gann, local video professional and Stephen Jay from the Sight and Sound Theatre, definitely worked some, “… theatrical magic on this production.” Nichols further commented on the importance of having a skilled, experienced and extremely capable Associate Producer like Shanda Watts Stringer. Shanda is also the Owner of Perfectly Planned Branson, VIP party caterers. The champagne for the VIP party was provided by Crown Valley Champagne House.

During the second half of the show, the intermission votes were tallied. While awaiting the results, audience members enjoyed exhibition dancing from many of Branson’s performance academies. These students and pros, entertained the crowd to wild cheers. Sonshine Dance and Fitness; Dance Branson, Midwest Dance Revolution and Premiere Dance Academy brought out their finest classroom and competition numbers on the gigantic stage. Specialty performers included Mariya Seryhk; Tracy Maxfield and Janet Reed; Miss Branson, Tippe Emmot; and Legends in Concert performer, Nedgra Culp who Emcee Nichols called, “Branson’s Queen of Soul” In less than an hour, the results were delivered to the stage.
