GREENFIELD, Mo. -- The Dade County Sheriff believes thieves who stole 21 cattle from a farm near Arcola last Monday also tried to steal cattle from a nearby farm two nights later. He’s looking for tips from citizens that might lead detectives to the thieves.
Sheriff Steven Stapp says someone stole 21 head of cattle from the farm of Keith Hankins, about a half miles south of Arcola, early Monday. He said it appears the thieves used horses and corn feed to lure the cattle to a corral, where they were loaded into a trailer.
On Wednesday, Paul Wallen, who has a pasture a half mile north of Arcola, found a fence cut and a lock missing off a gate. Wallen says no cattle are missing, however. Stapp says evidence at both sites “links the two crimes together.”
The Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Governor's Cattle Theft Task Force and the Livestock Marketing Association are helping with the investigations. Anyone with information can call the Dade County 911 Center at (417) 637-1911. Callers may remain anonymous.
